Does money buy happiness? Does it buy love? What do you think Perry’s life would have been like without it?

The end of the story shows that money doesn't buy happiness; it didn't help Perry's family. One of the most encouraging things about this story is that Perry remained essentially the same before, during, and after the winnings, even in the face of others' greed. That is what everyone wants to believe, that they would stay the same person inside after winning, though most of us would at least upgrade our possessions.
