One of the interesting developments in the story is the way everyone around the Queen reacts to her reading. There's an overwhelmingly negative response in everyone from her servants, colleagues, subjects, even the dogs, "in a short space of time they came to hate books as the spoilsports they were (and have always been)."
Do you find this reaction realistic? Have you had similar negative reactions to your reading from those around you?

You do sometimes find a negative response to too much reading, where "too much" could be any one moment someone finds your reading annoying. I've gotten playful "there she is with a book" comments from my husband and attempts to get it out of my hands. Likewise I've even found myself trying to get him, not usually a reader at all, to turn off his audiobook when I'd rather have his attention. You'd think I'd be more excited that he's reading at all! The only think I think wasn't touched on in the book is how there are always fellow readers among us. Many times I have been seen with a book in my hand and a stranger has started conversation, sometimes very animated, about the author, their own reading, or questions about the book. And its not always the people you'd expect. There must have been some person to cross the Queen's path other than Norman who was a reader and would be curious or inspired to read by her.
