Love Walked In - Martin
One of the things that makes this book so interesting is that Martin is the means by which Clare and Cornelia connect, yet we don't get any of the story really from his perspective. Why do you think he never told Cornelia about Clare? Once Clare reappears in his life, what do you make of his actions and reactions to both Clare and to the missing Viviana? Do you think he handles it well? Try to imagine his perspective.

Martin is the hardest character to wrap my head around. Even when he does show emotion, it doesn't seem trustworthy. We never get an explanation on how he could distance himself so much from his daughter, so much so that she daydreams about being an orphan - e.g. Annie rescued by Daddy Warbucks. I don't think he would have told Cornelia about Clare if Clare hadn't shown up at his doorstep and he needed someone to bail him out of taking responsibility. I think his reactions to Clare reappearing and Viviana going missing are classic denial, just trying to keep up the normal facade of going to work like everything is normal. Denial is an understandable reaction. The sad thing is he is gone before we get to see him move past that and be there for Clare.
